Johann Sebastian Bach - Cello Suite 3 (Prelude)
Johann Sebastian Bach - Cello Suite 3 (Prelude)

These days I am working on a project that will make me play some works from the 19th century, which made me change my cello's tuning.
I usually play the A note tuned to a frequency of 415 Hz, a typical 'baroque' tuning of the time. In the 19th century, instead, tuning at 430 Hz was almost a standard throughout the world, as now the standard is 440 (or 443).
Playing at 430 seems a bit strange to me; it's not a tuning I've used too much, and that's why I try it with other pieces besides the ones from this new project, to listen to it better and get used to it a little more.

You can listen to an earlier practice of the same prelude (March 2023), an earlier performance (July 2021), and the whole Suite 3 (March 2012)
